Guest Blog: Buy-From Brightcore

Buy-From Brightcore is an online store for clever design. I set the store up in October last year from my home in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. With a background in marketing and sourcing innovative products and a desire to work from home so that I can be around for my 3 year old daughter, I decided to sell the clever stuff I was sourcing for others! The shop specialises in gifts, gadgets and home and lifestyle products and it has been quite some journey over the last 6 months.

Everything started when I visited the trade shows Autumn Fair and Top Drawer back in September 2014. Looking for inspiration and innovation, I started to build up the profile of the shop. It was so exciting to start establishing relationships with designers and companies doing such interesting and creative work with their product design. Two of the earliest products to be sold by my store have been consistent best sellers: the Host Wine Chill (which has since been a Gift Association Gift of the Year finalist) and the Wowzr! BoomBox (so much fun for kids and adults!).

It was really at the start of this year, however, that the shop really found its identity, with the categories divided in Clever Stuff for Big People and Clever Stuff for Little People. Customers have responded really positively to the branding of the shop and we have started to add more and more innovative products as a result.

It is working with artists such as Meg, however, that has inspired me to develop the shop further, so as to reflect the creativity and inspiration of this working in Shropshire. Next week will see the launch of Clever By Local Design, a category within the shop showcasing all the work of local artists and designers. Meg will be the first artist to feature and I am really excited about the new look shop. Shropshire is a beautiful place to live and the countryside and people are pretty inspiring. I am hoping that the feature will sit well alongside all that we are offering on the Big People and Little People pages.

Which product is your current best seller?

There are two that have been selling well in time for Mother's Day: the personalised thank you/I love you prints and the Spineless Classic whole page book posters. I love both of these and they offer something different for the customers.

The personalised prints are special and unique, giving you an opportunity to say something personal to someone you love.

The Spineless Classics are fabulous - large, beautifully designed prints on which the whole novel is printed. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Peter Pan appear to be the most popular at the moment.

What are you looking forward to?

I am really excited about the Clever by Local Design feature that we are developing. It really matters to me that I am able to reflect just a tiny part of the county and the amazing work people are doing creatively here.

What is your connection to Meg Hawkins?

School days, friendship, Shropshire, creativity, fun.....
